Brittney JoLee Huston

Dulcimer player and singer

Brittney has been playing the mountain dulcimer since the age of 6. She is a multi-talented, enthusiastic, 15 year old, instrumentalist, and recording artist. Her focus is on the lap dulcimer and claw hammer banjo. With a rhythm and melody that mimics a fiddle’s, her style amazes and delights audiences. There is a timeless mountain sound to her repertoire.

Brittney JoLee has performed with a great many musical legends and has a keen ear for music. Currently she performs solo, as a duo with Grandpa Jimmy Cary, in a group with the Springfield Dulcimer Strings, and at times, with the Dulci-Kids, a group of young musicians tutored by Mike Anderson from Jacksonville, Illinois

Her affiliations include the Springfield & Central Illinois Film Commission, one of Mike Anderson’s Dulcimer Kids, and the Dulcimer Strings of Springfield, IL. Her mentor list is quite long, and includes instructors from all over the United States & Canada. These past 5 years musical artists also mentored Brittney Jo Lee at WCU Mountain Dulcimer Week, and at Cosby Dulcimer & Harp Convention at Mountains MusiCrafts in Cosby, Tennessee. Her primary instructors have been Mike Anderson on the dulcimer and Dale Evans on claw hammer banjo.

Just within 2006, Brittany has performed at New Salem State Park in Illinois, Western Carolina University at Cullowhee North Carolina, Dickson Mounds State Park in Illinois, the Cosby Dulcimer & Harp Convention in Cosby, Tennessee, Ham Radio Festivals, hospitals and her high school. She was asked to play on the Cosby Tennessee stage while visiting at Lee Shilling’s home on her way to another venue. That evening on the Cosby stage in the mountains of Tennessee, Brittney felt that it was a great honor for her to play and sing to the people who taught her to hear mountain music.

She chooses tunes that are traditional, Civil War, Celtic and gospel selections She is deeply committed to preserving the old music from the mountains and plains of these United States.
